Jay A. Martus serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Sheridan Healthcare and its affiliates. Mr. Martus began representing Sheridan in 1989. Mr. Martus provides legal, business and strategic counsel to Sheridan`s Board of Directors and its senior management. He is responsible for Sheridan`s Legal Department as well as the Company's Enterprise Risk Management and Human Resources functions. Mr. Martus is also President of Sheridan`s affiliated captive insurance company.
Mr. Martus currently serves as a Vice Chair for the AHLA's Healthcare Litigation and Liability Practice Group. He was appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to the Florida Bar's Standing Committee on the Unlicensed Practice of Law. He recently served six years as a member of the Florida Bar's Ethics Committee. Mr. Martus taught Enterprise Risk Management at the AHLA's Fundamentals of Health Law Conference in 2009 and at the AHLA's Physicians' Organization Conference in 2010. He has served twice as a contributing editor to the AHLA`s publication, Representing Physicians Handbook. Mr. Martus is a former President of the University of Miami`s Law School Alumni Association. He is a 1985 summa cum laude graduate of the University Of Miami School Of Law and received his B.A. in Economics, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts in 1978.
